On day five in the Casey Anthony murder trial, the court heard testimony from Anthony's mother and a series of text messages between Anthony and her ex-boyfriend. The messages were sent the morning after Anthony Lazzaro found out his girlfriend's daughter was missing and a police investigation was underway.
"I'm so sorry for not telling you what happened. We obviously need to talk. I need you, and I love you more than you know," Anthony wrote to Lazzaro, according to the documents read in court. He asks her where Caylee is and she responds with: "I honestly don't know.""I am the worst f-ing [sic] person in the entire world. I don't know what I'll do if something happens to her," she texted him."I lie to everyone. What was I supposed to say? I trust my daughter with some psycho? How does that look?"
There, Anthony refers to a nanny she claims to have left Caylee with."I am the dumbest person and the worst mother. I honestly hate myself," she texted."The most important thing is getting Caylee back, but I hope you forgive me, granted I will never be able to forgive myself nor will my family."Next, Anthony's mother Cindy was called to the stand. Her testimony started with questioning about when she found out that Casey was pregnant. Cindy Anthony said Casey only gained about 15 pounds while pregnant with Caylee.
Prosecutors asked if the family tried to hide Casey's pregnancy. Cindy Anthony said 'no.'But she couldn't hold back tears as she was shown a picture of granddaughter's bed. The little girl's bedroom had a Winnie the Pooh theme, as did Casey when she was growing up.Prosecutors then showed several pictures of the Anthony's backyard, including an above-ground pool and Caylee's playhouse, sandbox and picnic table.
And again, Cindy Anthony couldn't stop the emotions.Across the courtroom, Casey Anthony was seen wiping away tearsProsecutors say Anthony used chloroform on her daughter and then put duct tape over her nose and mouth, suffocating her.Caylee's skeletal remains were found in a wooded area in December of 2008.
